Home / Why pine The question everyone asks

Will a pine home survive the Maharashtra monsoon? Yes. Here is exactly how.

Pine is the most common timber for log homes in Scandinavia, Canada and the Alps, places with deep snow, hard rain and long winters. When the wood is treated properly and the house is designed to stay dry, pine lasts for generations. Below is what we do on every build.

  • Treated pine
  • Raised plinth
  • Deep overhangs
  • Planned drainage
The wood

Dry, dense, slow-grown pine

We use pine origin pine, grade, kiln-dried in our yard to moisture % before it is cut. Dry, slow-grown pine is stable; it does not twist or crack the way fast-grown or poorly dried timber does. Every log is graded, and the ones that don't pass go into decking and outbuildings, not walls.

Treatment

Against termites, borers and fungus

Every structural piece is treatment before it reaches your plot. This is the step that cheap wooden structures skip, and it is the reason ours do not get eaten.

Design for rain

Treatment protects. Design keeps it dry.

  • A raised concrete plinth of at least N ft, so wood never touches soil.
  • Roof overhangs of N ft on all sides, so walls stay out of driving rain.
  • Gutters, downpipes and site drainage designed on the site visit, not added later.
  • Exterior coating with coating, reapplied every N years.
Fire

Solid logs char, and the char slows fire

We add fire-retardant practice, run all electrical wiring in conduit, and plan the kitchen safely. Your home can be insured like any other; we share our documentation with your insurer.

Heat and sound

Cooler in May, warmer in the hills

A log wall is a natural insulator. Clients tell us interiors stay noticeably cooler than the verandah on summer afternoons and warmer on winter nights in the hills. Rain on the roof over a timber ceiling is a sound many come for.

Lifespan and warranty

N-year structural warranty

Our first builds from 2018 are still in daily use. With the light maintenance below, there is no reason a pine log home should not outlast a concrete one of the same age.

Maintenance, honestly

That is the whole list.

  • Every monsoonA 20-minute check of the coating, gutters and the plinth line.
  • Every N yearsA protective coat on the exterior. We can do it, or your local painter can with our product list.
  • AlwaysKeep soil, planters and firewood away from the walls.

Every client gets a care guide at handover, and we offer an annual check-up visit.

Questions we are asked on every site visit

Before you decide.

Does wood get hot in May?

Less than concrete. Logs are poor conductors of heat; the roof and overhangs do most of the work.

Can I get a home loan?

Several banks finance wooden homes on owned land. We share our documentation with your bank. Ask us before you apply.

What about resale?

A well-built wooden farmhouse in a tourist belt is a sought-after property, and the land value is unaffected.

Can it be extended later?

Yes. A deck, a bedroom wing or a gazebo can be added without disturbing the existing structure.
